Frances haugen,37 year old, born and raised in Iowa. Resigned from Facebook in April 2021. Haugen was the product manager in Facebook, she used to help protect against election interference on Facebook.
After resigning in April, she continued another month to complete projects during that period she came across ”The Journal Series”- which described how the companies rules favour elites ,how its algorithm foster discord, how drug cartels and human traffickers use its services openly also an article about Instagram effects on teenage girls mental health.
In time she grew frustrated by what she saw the company becoming. Haugen last message logged was ”I don't hate Facebook", she wrote ”I love Facebook and I want to save it.”
Frances said the documents she leaked proved that Facebook repeatedly prioritised ”growth over safety”. She gathered information documents that formed the foundation of ’The Wall Street Journals Facebook Files series’.

The 37 year old was interviewed about "THE WALL STREET JOURNAL" a month ago, where she made revelations of Facebook files that included documents showing celebrities, politicians and high profile Facebook users were treated differently by the company.
Through all this the leaks revealed that moderation policies were applied differently, or not at all, to such accounts- a system known as XCheck (cross-check).
Another leak showed that Facebook was facing a complex lawsuit from a group of its own shareholders.
Research by Facebook has found that Instagram was impacting the mental health of teenagers but did not share its finding when they suggested that the platform was a 'Toxic' place for youngsters.
32% of teenage girls surveyed said that when they felt bad about their bodies, Instagram made them feel worse.
Ms Haugen in her assessment said against her former employer.
'There were conflicts of interest between what was good for the public and what was good for Facebook.'
'Facebook over and over again chose to optimise for its own interests, like making money.' she said Facebook turned on safety systems to reduce misinformation during the US election-but only temporarily.
